"I am in love with colour." (mARTa)
We can say with certainty that the most important aspect of our product is colour, followed closely by texture. Our shop is full of colour, textures and samples showing the mixture of the two. We believe that knitting with beautiful colours and beautiful textured yarns brings joy to the soul. To be able to create unique and exciting works of art one needs the whole spectrum of colour and a great range of textures. That is what we help our customers with.
Marta's Story
"When doing a Diploma of Studio Textiles I discovered the wonderful world of colour. In search of colour for my tapestries I found that no one was dyeing the colours I needed. As soon as I found some basic books on dyeing I launched myself into dyeing my first rainbow. I decided that if I could make a perfect color wheel I could do any other shade from it.
With the support of my family and some wonderful people around me I began to dye thousands of samples of all the scales of colour I could imagine. Studying Colour Theory went hand in hand with my experimentation in dyeing. Soon after, I got my first order for hand-dyed yarns from a local wool shop. Other shops followed and I continue taking orders from many other shops. After a few years the hand knitting trends had declined and shops could not kept their doors open.
It was time for me to do something new, interesting and challenging. So I decided to do a Fine Art Degree at Monash University majoring in Painting. The use of oil on canvas gave me a great feel for mixing colours. Always keeping up with my personal studies on the subject of colour, I again started to dye yarns but with a totally new approach. With a new technique, hand painting the yarns, I started producing my multi-coloured collections. I have never looked back. I now dye from 2ply fine Australian merino yarns to 30ply wool, mohairs, silks, angora and alpaca yarns."
